All the organisations involved in this year’s youth music festival run year-round programmes of activities and support for young musicians – from providing tuition, guidance and support to providing access to equipment and studio recording opportunities.  There’s a host of ways to get involved – see below for a list of the organisations and weblinks to give you an idea of how we might be able to support your musical and creative endeavours!

artcore#artcore is a collaborative 2 year project led by Out of the Blue at the Drill Hall in collaboration with Edinburgh arts organisations, young people, artists and young Creative Apprentices. #artcore works in partnership with agencies across the city developing an exciting programme of youth arts, including radio and music production, game design, film-making, creative writing, circus, theatre, scriptwriting, printmaking, publishing, guerilla art and hacking/programming. totally soundTotally Sound are a youth music project based in central Edinburgh that runs on Saturday afternoons, providing music workshops for young people aged between 12 – 18 years old. Totally Sound offers a range of facilities including instrument tuition, recording, rehearsal space and performance opportunities designed to encourage creativity and expression.  The project supports young people of all skill levels from absolute beginners to the most talented young performers and provide low cost access to high quality equipment and professional tuition. tinderboxThe Tinderbox Project provides inspiring education & opportunities for young people in the contemporary arts through a range of projects. The Tinderbox Orchestra is an orchestra with the approach of a band – together the orchestra writes and plays original compositions, modern covers in a fusion of styles. The orchestra meet weekly, and is made up of and led by young people aged 13-25, – any young musicians interested in joining just get in touch! .

The Frontiers Music Collective is a weekly project based in North Edinburgh Arts for children & young people aged 10-25 and of all levels of experience; from those who have never played before to experienced young musicians. There is a live band, a studio & production group, songwriting, samba drumming and instrumental tuition – it is completely open access and runs every tuesday free of charge.  If you interested in finding out more, or joining in, click here

born to be wideBorn To Be Wide are a music based organisation, who work across Scotland.  Born to be Wide stage music business seminars, and organise the award-winning Wide Days convention/showcase and the Off The Record youth events. The company also organises bespoke talks and workshops for other conferences, festivals and organisations.  Off The Record is a series of events across Scotland for young musicians and those who want to work in the industry.  Each event features key figures from the music business taking part in seminars, workshops and advice sessions – all geared to demystifying the industry and providing the basic knowledge to get started.
